New Roads, Louisiana -- Custodial father confesses to beating 18-month-old baby to death because the child was crying

"Aaron Bowman, 28, of New Roads, was booked into the Pointe Coupee Parish Prison on one count of first-degree murder, said New Roads Police Capt. Mark Munson on Saturday... An autopsy showed that one of the baby's legs was broken and he had been hit with the palm of a fist on his head, his stomach and his back... The child also had liver damage... died from internal bleeding... Bowman first told police that the child was injured while Bowman was playing with him. Bowman said he was throwing the child in the air when the child 'slipped' and fell." What nincompoop gave this man custody of a baby and a 2-year-old toddler? http://www.2theadvocate.com/news/police/70731097.html

Germantown, Tennessee -- Unwed father obtained custody, then beat 16-month-old son to death

Paternate "Curtis Lee Morris Jr., 27, remains in jail on $300,000 bond... Police have not been able to locate the mother... Mitchell said he could not go into detail about why Morris was given custody." http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/nov/19/dad-accused-beating-his-son-had-just-gotten-custod/  Commentary at http://dastardlydads.blogspot.com/2009/11/dad-gests-custody-this-fall-then-beats.html

Palm Bay, Florida -- Father who was previously arrested for domestic violence but not prosecuted storms estranged wife's home and holds her and two children hostage

"The unidentified man surrendered to Palm Bay SWAT team members at about 6 a.m. and was taken to the Palm Bay Community Hospital after appearing under the influence of an unknown substance... The woman and the children, a 14-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, managed to escape the home during the overnight hours, police said." http://www.floridatoday.com/article/20091117/BREAKINGNEWS/91117002/1006/news01/Dad+arrested+after+hostage+situation+ends+in+Palm+Bay
Lucky them that they are still alive. Note to defense-minded apologists: neither the woman nor the children were able under these circumstances to make the 911 call. Had this "event" somehow been managed, and then reported after the fact, perhaps in a family law case or in connection with the seeking of a restraining order, how seriously would you have taken it?
And get this idiotic media statment: "Investigators said it began as a fight between Christopher Lynch and his estranged wife. They said Lynch had two guns on him at the time of the standoff." http://www.wesh.com/news/21636380/detail.html  (First the media unidentifies him -- in case it's yet again just some "dad" -- see the floridatoday.com URL -- accused wrongly of domestic violence. And then another news source describes barging into someone else's home armed with two guns as a "fight".)

Amarillo, Texas -- Custodial father who repeatedly forced his 8- and 9-year-old daughters to watch hard core pornography apparently has not committed a crime under Texas law

"A 1970s-era Texas law that allows parents to show 'harmful material' to their children has come under fire after a US prosecutor said he couldn't file charges against a man accused of forcing his eight- and nine-year-old daughters to watch hardcore online pornography... one of the girls told a counsellor in June that her father made them watch adults having group sex and various other acts at his home in Amarillo. The parents of the girls, and their seven-year-old sister, are divorced and share custody." Where's the family court judge here? http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/924640/dad-escapes-charges-in-child-porn-case

Manchester, New Hampshire -- Remarried custodial father murders wife, shoots her father twice in the back when he attempts to flee with her body, then kills himself; she had obtained restraining order and filed for divorce

Melissa Charbonneau had returned with her father to the marital home to collect some of her belongings, thinking Jonathan Charbonneau would be at work. http://www.unionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=At+least+two+shot+on+Jewett+Street&articleId=e7be83fe-a2d6-486a-b4d9-a120cbf7dacd
http://www.necn.com/Boston/New-England/2009/10/23/Mother-shot-in-murdersuicide/1256333747.html
An issue unaddressed by the news media is why this abusive and violent man, who also had a 7-year-old with his current wife, had "two children by a former relationship" living with him.
Also unaddressed is why he was not arrested and jailed based on the incident that prompted the restraining order, and why he wasn't ordered out of the marital home. Choking, drug-taking, and depression are warning signs of possible lethality. See http://www.thelizlibrary.org/liz/will-he-kill.html

Arizona -- Peoria mother begged judge to let her relocate to Maryland with 2-year-old son; he denied the request and ordered her into counseling with abusive boyfriend father, who then murdered her. Outrage!

"Two weeks before she was killed, Dawn Axsom pleaded with Judge Jose Padilla of Maricopa County Superior Court to let her leave Arizona with her son because she feared Gabriel Schwartz, the toddler's father, would harm her or their boy... Padilla denied the 26-year-old's request and ordered the pair to attend parental counseling together.   Axsom's body was found in her Peoria residence Friday. Police also found the bodies of Schwartz, 28, and Lisa Braden, 56, Axsom's mother." http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2009/10/19/20091019peomurder1020.html This judge should be removed from the bench.  Also see liznotes at thelizlibrary.org on these misguided fatherhood exaltation, joint custody and anti-relocation laws.

West Palm Beach, Florida -- Judge and prosecutor do it right; gang rapists, torturers of mother and child sentenced to life for a hideous crime while defense counsel tries to blame their absent father childhoods

"Palm Beach Circuit Judge Krista Marx sentenced Jakaris Taylor, 17, and Nathan Walker, 18, to life in prison while Tommy Poindexter, 20, was sentenced to life in prison with a mandatory minimum of 25 years in prison. A fourth defendant, Avion Lawson, 16, pleaded guilty and will be sentenced in December... The four were convicted of barging into the then-35-year-old woman's West Palm Beach apartment in 2007 and raping her repeatedly, then beating her then-12-year-old son and forcing her to perform oral sex on him. They then doused the two in chemicals and left when they could not find a match... [Prosecutor Aleathea] McRoberts said 'there is a huge population of kids who were raised by single moms without much money who don't have jobs that never go on to commit crimes.'

Lakeland, Florida -- Father murders mother, stuffs her in trunk of car, then jumps off bridge; Ledger does human interest story downplaying the domestic violence; shame on Hillsboro divorce court for granting visitation to batterer

"By about 6 p.m. Monday, the usually busy playground at Happy Days School in Lakeland had emptied of children, all except for Kelly Laird. The 7-year-old brunette waited in vain for the mother who would never come again... Sheryl Laird's body was found in the trunk of a car set afire on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa. The child's father, Robert Laird, had plunged to his death from the span... If she was plagued by problems with her ex-husband... [she] didn't seem to show it... Even if they didn't get along, she didn't let that rattle his relationship with [the little girl]..." http://www.theledger.com/article/20091013/NEWS/910135042/1410?Title=Ex-Husband-Suspected-In-a-Murder-Suicide

Parenting Coordination

We've been getting in email nearly daily from family court litigants around the country who are distraught over the messes being made in their lives by so-called parenting coordinators, a fairly newly-invented field in which a third party "professional" is granted rather free-for-all authority -- without responsibility or liability -- to manage "co-parenting" between child custody litigants. Before you agree to a parenting coordinator, or relent to a court-ordered parenting coordinator without a fight and an appeal, if necessary, read this: http://www.thelizlibrary.org/parenting-coordination/parenting-coordination.html

Enough of Roman Polanski

He belongs in prison. He belongs in prison for running out on an already ridiculously overly-lenient plea deal, and for making a mockery of the law against child rape. (Not "statutory rape", but "rape". See the Grand Jury transcript http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/polanskicover1.html ) He would have had to serve a paltry few months. If that. Can we now stop giving media attention to this case, and to all the perverts and apologists in Hollywood whose misguided intentions degrade women and children, and cheapen and distort public opinion? How many children have been denied justice because, in minds of some judge or jury, it's nothing worse than what Roman Polanski did... http://www.dailymail.com/Opinion/DonSurber/200909300359 http://www.thenation.com/blogs/anotherthing/479379/roman_polanski_has_a_lot_of_friends
